Makenna Turns TWO

It is hard to believe, but our little Makenna is officially two years old now.  It is amazing how much she has grown and changed over this year.  She is no longer our baby, but more like our little girl now.  Which became even more apparent after bringing home a tiny newborn.  Makenna suddenly seemed so grown up. The time has flown by entirely way too fast.  So this post is going to be all about our "Princess" Makenna.  And boy is she definitely the princess of the house.  She has her daddy completely wrapped around her finger.  Dad has even been known to say, "Makenna, you better stop doing that or "mommy" is going to have to spank you."  Lol.  Yep, not daddy, but mommy.  He has gotten better about disciplining his little girl, but he sure doesn't like it.  I have to admit it is a bit harder to discipline her then Noah.  I am not sure if it was because for awhile she was "our baby" or if it's because she is a girl or what.  However, with her getting closer to two her terrible twos, her ornery levels have increased so it doesn't break my heart as much as it used to, to give her a spaken or put her in time out. ha ha
Makenna is the perfect combination of wild, tough, rough, knock you out tomboy and then she is also everything girly, pink, princess, and miss priss.  She is our tomboy princess. :)  She loves to play anything and everything with Noah.  She loves to wrestle with Daddy and can throw her share of some heavy blows.  But this girl LOVES the color pink.  She loves to accessorize with play necklaces, bracelets, etc.  She loves to wear dresses and skirts....especially if they are pink.  She loves to show off her "pretty hair" and outfits.  I am all tomboy...so not sure where she got the miss priss part of her...but we all love it! :)
Noah is her very best friend and she loves to play with him.  She thinks her big brother is pretty awesome (which he is!)  When we go to parks or play places she has to have her brother with her at all times and she gets pretty upset if he forgets about her and runs around with other kids for a bit.  So we definitely need to work on her being a bit more independent of her brother at public places.  But it is sweet...he is very protective of her and is a great big brother.  And they get a long...almost as much as they fight.  So a nice 50/50 for mommy! ha ha  Makenna actually holds her own and picks on Noah just as much if not MORE then he picks on her! Crazy girl.
Makenna has the most adorable little voice and has recently began to talk a lot.  She is saying complete sentences, learning her abc's, counting, and is just growing up too fast.  She started nursery at church and cried for over a month when we would drop her off!  She does better now, but still sometimes acts upset when we drop her off.  She just loves her family I guess. :)  But I am glad she has time to play with other kids for a couple hours a week without Noah.  It is good for her.   She is funny because when you are reprimanding her for making a bad choice she enjoys changing the subject with a smile on her face.  For example I will say, "Makenna you need to stop taking Noah's toy away."  To which she will smile at me, point to a different area of the room and say something like, "Look mom a balloon," as she giggles and points.  So at her very young age she already tries to wiggle her way out of trouble!
She is also frustratingly independent.  She insists on doing EVERYTHING "by myself" as she puts it.  So even things she is not even physically capable of doing yet she insists on trying and gets mad when we end up having to help her.  It's especially hard when she exerts her independence when we are in a hurry to get somewhere.  Talk about trying mommy's patience.  However, I am glad that she does have that independence and determination.  They are good qualities to have!
Some funny things and sayings of Makenna:
She used to call bath bubbles and bubbles....."bubbies"
Whenever her hair is messed up or in her face she says, "My hairs crazy."
One time before getting in the bath she said, "I have a cute butt."
After I had the baby and was nursing...she looked down at her chest and pointed to her little nip.  She proceeded to say, "My boobs.  I feed baby Kayleigh." lol
She is sassy!  After telling her it was time for a nap one day, she responded in a very sassy voice, "No thank you!  I'm not tired!"
When she spots me cleaning or working she is often asking, "Mommy, I help you?"
She sure is a hoot and a joy....everything sweet and ornery all at once. :)  She loves her baby sister and is so gentle with her.  She loves to play with her baby dolls.  She loves Dora and Minnie and Mickey Mouse.  She loves going to grandma's house and riding in papa's truck.  She loves milk and would live off it if I let her.  She is super picky and sometimes hardly eats, but looks as healthy as can be! She is our favorite little two year old girl out there.
Fun at Cabelas!
She insisted on wearing this "pink" Christmas dress in July.  Luckily she did not insist on the long sleeve undershirt that goes with it!
Best buds!
Our glamour girl!  The other day she insisted on wearing her glasses all during the library's story time and then the whole time we went grocery shopping!
Making marshmallow towers!
Showing off her new panties! She is not even close to being potty trained yet...but this was a cute picture!
Swimming in the back yard!
Pig tails!
Hi mom!
Pretty girl!
One of her favorite headbands
She cries like this almost everyday that Noah leaves for preschool. :)   She cries and says, "I want my Noah."  I guess it's a rough life being left at home with mom. :)

She recently had her birthday party and had a blast!  She enjoyed having her family there to celebrate.  Both sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins!  She was sooo slow opening her presents.  She would carefully tear off a piece of wrapping paper and then hand me piece by piece so that I could throw each piece away.  She definitely did not rip and tear the paper off like most kids.  She was very gentle and careful with each present.  ha ha  Also, when we all started singing her happy birthday she recognized the song and joined along...singing happy birthday to herself! :)  And she had no idea how to blow out a candle apparently because she preceded to just make a duck face in front of the candle for a few seconds.  No air coming out, just puckered lips.    Finally she figured it out though!  She received many wonderful gifts and loved "Makenna's Happy Birthday" as she said for a few days afterwards.  :)  For example when she pointed to one of her new presents she would say," From Makenna's Happy Birthday."  Soo cute!  We sure love Makenna! :)

Introducing Kayleigh Jean Starits!

We are happy to announce that our newest baby girl has been born.  It was another long, hot summer of miserable, end of the road pregnancy in the hot, sweltering desert of Arizona...but I survived!  Some days...barely survived..but nevertheless, I did!  I feel so sorry for my kids...I hardly had any energy towards the end there.  I was probably a real boring mom...but I still tried to get out and do things with them too.  Good thing my mom has summers off because she helped me keep them entertained and we were able to go and do a lot of things with her this summer from mall visits, swimming pool, summer movies, etc.  With her help, I could muster the energy for some fun for the kids!  She is a wonderful mom and grandma!  The kids are definitely missing her now that school has officially started.  We all look forward to next summer so we can hang out with her again. :)
But on to our little Kayleigh.  We decided to get induced at 39 weeks because then I would have a for sure and readily available baby sitter for my kids as my mom had to start work 1 day after she was born.  It worked out and caused the least amount of stress for all of us.  I am so thankful for my doctor who was willing to work with us and happy to let me have my baby girl a little bit early.  She said that I have had healthy pregnancies, labors, and deliveries...and that there really was no reason not to.  And yet again we were blessed to have everything turn out great and Kayleigh and mama were doing great after her delivery.
Alright, so onto her birth story.  We awaited a phone call Monday morning that told us we were able to come in for a scheduled 7:00 AM induction.  They called us and we happily and anxiously drove to the hospital and got things started.  I am not sure why...but I felt so nervous for this delivery.  I was so worried something bad was going to happen to the baby or to me and I had to calm myself down and pray the whole time I was there.  Kind of weird! I had never been that way before, but I was super nervous and stressed for some reason.  I am not sure why I was...as everything worked out great.  I was in labor from about 8:20 - until 4:28 when my sweet baby girl was born.  I literally only pushed for less than 2 minutes and the most recent Starits was born! Kayleigh Jean Starits was born Monday, July 29th at 4:28 PM.  She was 20 1/2 inches long and 7 pounds 5 ounces.  One thing to remember...she was MAD about being out of the womb.  She screamed and screamed for a good hour!  She finally calmed down though and we were all able to dote on our newest addition.  We were visited in the hospital by my mom (who was there for the birth), step-dad Bob, my cousin Keri, and then my brother and sister in law Kyle and Jen.  Luckily Kyle and Jen had the day off and graciously agreed to watch Noah and Makenna so that my mom could be at the hospital with Tommy and I...which is right where I would want her.  :)  When they brought the kids we were excited to see their reactions.  Noah looked but seemed very disinterested and wanted to play his dad's iPad instead.  He did check the new baby out, but not for very long.  But Makenna was infatuated with her new "baby Kayleigh" she wanted to be next to the baby the whole time.  And the same has rung true a week and a half later.  Makenna always wants to hold the baby and is so gentle and loving.  She gives her kisses as often as she can, is completely aware of her, and loves her to pieces.  Noah will hold her every now and then, is not as gentle, and between a kiss here and there would much rather just do his own thing.  I think it is kind of funny! :)
We have been so happy to have our new baby sister born.  She seems to take more after Noah's temperament.  Doesn't matter if she is really upset or just a little upset....it is usually the same loud screaming cry.  Also she cried off and on for almost 4 hours straight the first night we took her home.  She seems to be the greatest baby all day and then has only had 2 nights where she didn't cry from 2 - 4 hours straight in the middle of the night.  I am wondering if she might have reflux like Noah did too.  All I know is that Makenna was definitely my easiest newborn and baby so far.  Hopefully Kayleigh's stomach issues will work themselves out soon.  I hate to have her on medicine for reflux like we had to have Noah...but if it doesn't get better...momma and daddy do need their sleep! lol
But she is a joy to have.  She is the cutest little baby and during the day can often be spotted with a random smile on her face.  Her eyes flutter quite a bit when she sleeps and she has already brought much joy to our family and my heart.  I am thankful for her health and pray she continues to grow healthy and strong.  I love my role as a mother...it is demanding and tiring...but there isn't anything Id rather be doing right now in my life.  I love my kids and I am thankful to have them with me everyday!
Here are some pictures of the kids and our beautiful, new baby girl Kayleigh Jean!  Which I might add...she was a hard baby to name! At first we really liked Lexie and then we didn't and then we went through a slew of names to consider and possibly use.  We disagreed on names and nothing sounded right.  For a little bit we were even going to name her Mayah.  And then FINALLY we decided to name her Kayleigh! lol  We are spelling it with the "leigh" because my middle name is Leigh and I thought that would be cool to include in her name.  Then her middle name "Jean" is after my mom whose middle name is also Jean.  So that is a little story on naming this little princess!
