A little Kayliegh Update with a Spiritual Twist :)

I need to update Kayleigh's first few months of life on here with pictures and more fun things....but  I will do that in the next post.  I wanted to get this one written first. :)
Today I am going to write about my journey so far with my latest born....Kayleigh Jean. :)  I was reading one of my friend's blog posts, who had a baby just a few days before Kayleigh was born.  This is what she wrote

I love how I truly can fix all her problems so quickly and so easily.         Feed, change, snuggle. That is it.                                                                              Things really are so simple and perfect and I am cherishing every single moment.

I had to kind of grimace and sigh because I sure did not have and have not had the same experiences with my baby.  Things sure have not been simple and perfect since she was born and try as I might there were many times that I wasn't cherishing every moment. ha ha To be quite honest my life has been pretty darn difficult since she was born.  Sure, I have three kids 4 years old and younger.  That in itself has kept me busy and tired.  However, it was Kayleigh that was making things difficult.  She is 5 days shy of 3 months old and has spent hours almost every day and night crying without comfort until yesterday.  I am still not sure if she will be better, but I am hoping. :) If only she were the normal baby crying for the normal baby reasons.  I tell you what....there is nothing worse than having your tiny baby screech and cry in your arms from what seems like pain....for hours...and there isn't anything that you can do to fix it.  And this isn't just some weird random day or evening.  This is every day and night for months.  The normal baby fixes don't work.  You feed her....she pulls away and cries still.  Or eats ferociously only to pull off, burp and scream and cry again.  Snuggle her?  I tried snuggling, rocking, swinging, swaddling, etc.  She still screamed.  Change her diaper? Constantly, way more than my other children....yet she still cried.
Our house is just one floor and you can hear pretty much anything from any room of the house...if it is loud enough.  So I have two other sleeping children  and a husband who has to work the next day...and a screaming, crying baby that I cannot get to stop in the middle of the night.  So I had to go into my walk in closet every night and just try my best to console the inconsolable baby for hours on end.  Pretty much every night for the first month and half of her life.  She would scream and cry and I would cry.  I would often plead to Heavenly Father, to please bless this crying baby.  Some comfort was probably given to her, but never complete relief.  In fact there were two nights in particular that she had been screaming on and off for hours and my husband finally broke down and gave her a blessing and she stopped crying immediately and would fall asleep finally.  Giving us both some much needed rest.  So I know Heavenly Father was looking out for us...the priesthood blessing had proven that...but pleaded as I would every day that he would fix it...he would not fix it...he would not fix her. She would cry most often in the night hours....but her days were not too much better.  Unless she was knocked out cold asleep.....she would be fussing.  Her moments of awake and being content would only last minutes in duration.
Feeding her became extremely stressful.  My back was in knots because every time I had to feed my newborn I was a tense ball of stress.  She would pull away, choke mid way through, need burped 4-5 times in a meager two ounce bottle.  She would fall asleep during a bottle to wake up screaming crying a few minutes later to eat again.  Sometimes it would take two hours to eat a two ounce bottle because of this constant struggle.  Hard times for sure!
Now, I had dealt with a crying baby before.  When Noah turned 1 month old he cried and cried too.  We discovered two things...he had a milk allergy and he had acid reflux.  We put him on a hypoallergenic formula and the doctor prescribed him liquid zantac.  He was good to go after that.  Sure he fussed, but normal baby fussed after that, and we were set.  So he was hard for a good 4 weeks but was cured.  So I had dealt with this before.  I breastfed all of my babies.  But when Noah seemed to be effected by everything I ate, I had stopped...not wanting to be the reason my baby cried.  So the same with Kayleigh...a month into her crying the doctor gave her zantac, like Noah for acid reflux.   It did help....but did not completely cure her like it had for Noah.  I stopped breastfeeding feeling heartbroken,  and put her on the same hypoallergenic formula that cured Noah.  Again...it did help, but did not cure.
She still struggled eating, seemed extremely uncomfortable from stomach pains,  burped and farted in excessive amounts, and cried and fussed a lot.  She also started to eat less each day...her lack of weight gain at her 2 month appt and at other GI appointments worried her doctors.  Again during this time I spent so much time on my knees praying that Heavenly Father would fix her.  Why would he not fix my suffering baby?  I was physically and emotionally exhausted and I still had two other little ones to care for day in and day out.  I can safely say that I have been dealing with a trial.  I count my blessings that what she has isn't life threatening or tragic or a constant scare for her life....but endless hours of crying day in and day out.  Not being able to comfort your new born.  Having a home and other children to care for amidst all of that...was and has been a huge trial for me.  Probably one of my worse ones yet.  She is days shy of 3 months had has been this way pretty much she was born.  That's quite a long time.  So I am tired.  ha ha
After some visits to the doctor, GI doctors, allergists, etc....explaining to each that this was after all my 3rd child and that I am not some crazy mom.  I explained something is wrong with her.  I was told by different doctors,  "sounds behavioral,"  "sounds like personality." blah blah blah.  I am sorry but I was the one who took care of, attempted comfort, and cried with this baby each day.  She was in pain.  I am her mom and I could tell.  Sometimes doctors can be such jerks. lol  But after lots of this...we have finally come to what I hope are solutions.
A few things we've discovered...at this time she is allergic to milk and soy...she was not even tolerating the "hypoallergenic" formula that you can buy at the store.  So her stomach is sensitive to say the least.  Her stool samples showed that her intestines to do not seem to break down foods properly (even hypoallergenic, easy to digest ones) which is what....along with allergies...that has caused her extreme gas pains and stomach discomfort in the past.  She is now on a expensive medical formula called Elecare.  Finally this gave her a noticeable difference in comfort....less pain.
Also, she has pretty severe and painful acid reflux.   The liquid zantac that cured Noah was not enough for her.  So the next thing up is liquid Prilosec.  What a blessing that has been.  My baby is not as uncomfortable at each feeding.  And she is eating so much more and starting to gain weight and look more healthy.
These things have helped tremendously and it was nice to finally have answers.  Also this past Sunday many family members fasted for her and now 3 days later we have enjoyed the best and most normal day and night since her birth.  Still some discomfort, but a very minimal amount! :) Thanks be to God.  I am hopeful and pray it stays this way.
Now I have been raised to know and believe that trials are ultimately for our good and help us grow spiritually.  So during this time I have been trying to figure out what in the world I was supposed to learn.  Other than that...maybe I don't need that fourth baby....three is good! ha ha :)  I am not sure if this trial is over yet and if she is good to go now.  All of her issues are things that she can grow out of.  My hope is that she will do just that and all will be well.  I guess we will see what the future holds.  But as of right now...these are the things I have learned from this trial.
1. It doesn't matter how much you pray, beg, plead, bargain, etc with Heavenly Father.  It is in his timing that things will get better or be fixed.  Until then you have to just be patient and endure.  Wow that's a hard one to learn.  It's been hard being patient for him to help my baby get better.  But it was a lesson I needed to learn.  Everything is in God's timing not ours.
2.  Service is truly one of the best ways to experience and feel God's love.  My mom has provided a lot of much needed help.  But she also works full time and it was hard for her to help as much as she wanted.  Also, family is supposed to provide service for each other.  I would help her in a heartbeat if she needed help too.  However it wasn't serving family that I needed to learn a lesson on, that comes much easier for me.  I needed to learn and discovered how truly important it is to "serve others."  After a rough week a lady in my ward (church) called me and told me that she was going to watch my kids for a few hours while I either took a nap or got things done.  She didn't care if Kayleigh cried she would be just fine.  It is hard for me to accept service from others.  I have a mentality that I can take care of everything and do not need help...even when I do.  So she took my kids and I came home and cleaned and rested for a little over an hour and it was rejuvenating.  Also when I went to pick up my kids she told me that she was making me dinner.  Her kind act of service was so helpful and truly touched my heart to what service was all about.  Through her kindness and service I felt God's love during this trying time.   I knew he loved me and was looking out for me and Kayleigh.  She also watched my older kids during a doctor appointment for Kayleigh and made dinner for me again within a week of making me dinner the last time.  From this I have finally discovered why service is so important.  Sadly I had not really understood the meaning or reasoning for service before I have had this trial with Kayleigh.  And now I understand it so much more than I ever thought.  Because of this trial I am going to be much more willing to give service to others in need.  I had to experience the joy of receiving service to realize how important it is and how much it truly can effect others in need....not only physically, but mentally, and especially and more importantly spiritually.  Through service I felt God's love.  I hope to be much better at helping others in need now.
3.  I have learned that fasting truly does work.  Kayleigh had been on her new formula and prilosec and was getting better, but it wasn't until a family fast that she truly seemed to be a "happy baby."  This week she has smiled more, been more alert, and slept more peacefully...and that was after the fast.
Now I know that I still have PLENTY to learn and even within the 3 things that I have learned from this trial I probably still have plenty more to learn within each of them.  But this is yet another example of how trials truly do teach us things.  I pray this trial is over and that Kayleigh will be better from here on out.  But even if she is, I know that more trials will be in my future.  And I just hope that I can bear my trials with patience, understanding, and that I will learn what God intends for me to learn from them.

Here is a smiling picture I took of Kayleigh this week.  Sadly her smiling has been a rare occasion.  In fact each smile of her life has brought tears to my eyes because they were so rare.  But she sure has smiled the past few days!  She has been consolable the past few days as well.  She has been...dare I say...a more normal baby the past few days.  And I truly hope it sticks! :)

Makenna Turns TWO

It is hard to believe, but our little Makenna is officially two years old now.  It is amazing how much she has grown and changed over this year.  She is no longer our baby, but more like our little girl now.  Which became even more apparent after bringing home a tiny newborn.  Makenna suddenly seemed so grown up. The time has flown by entirely way too fast.  So this post is going to be all about our "Princess" Makenna.  And boy is she definitely the princess of the house.  She has her daddy completely wrapped around her finger.  Dad has even been known to say, "Makenna, you better stop doing that or "mommy" is going to have to spank you."  Lol.  Yep, not daddy, but mommy.  He has gotten better about disciplining his little girl, but he sure doesn't like it.  I have to admit it is a bit harder to discipline her then Noah.  I am not sure if it was because for awhile she was "our baby" or if it's because she is a girl or what.  However, with her getting closer to two her terrible twos, her ornery levels have increased so it doesn't break my heart as much as it used to, to give her a spaken or put her in time out. ha ha
Makenna is the perfect combination of wild, tough, rough, knock you out tomboy and then she is also everything girly, pink, princess, and miss priss.  She is our tomboy princess. :)  She loves to play anything and everything with Noah.  She loves to wrestle with Daddy and can throw her share of some heavy blows.  But this girl LOVES the color pink.  She loves to accessorize with play necklaces, bracelets, etc.  She loves to wear dresses and skirts....especially if they are pink.  She loves to show off her "pretty hair" and outfits.  I am all tomboy...so not sure where she got the miss priss part of her...but we all love it! :)
Noah is her very best friend and she loves to play with him.  She thinks her big brother is pretty awesome (which he is!)  When we go to parks or play places she has to have her brother with her at all times and she gets pretty upset if he forgets about her and runs around with other kids for a bit.  So we definitely need to work on her being a bit more independent of her brother at public places.  But it is sweet...he is very protective of her and is a great big brother.  And they get a long...almost as much as they fight.  So a nice 50/50 for mommy! ha ha  Makenna actually holds her own and picks on Noah just as much if not MORE then he picks on her! Crazy girl.
Makenna has the most adorable little voice and has recently began to talk a lot.  She is saying complete sentences, learning her abc's, counting, and is just growing up too fast.  She started nursery at church and cried for over a month when we would drop her off!  She does better now, but still sometimes acts upset when we drop her off.  She just loves her family I guess. :)  But I am glad she has time to play with other kids for a couple hours a week without Noah.  It is good for her.   She is funny because when you are reprimanding her for making a bad choice she enjoys changing the subject with a smile on her face.  For example I will say, "Makenna you need to stop taking Noah's toy away."  To which she will smile at me, point to a different area of the room and say something like, "Look mom a balloon," as she giggles and points.  So at her very young age she already tries to wiggle her way out of trouble!
She is also frustratingly independent.  She insists on doing EVERYTHING "by myself" as she puts it.  So even things she is not even physically capable of doing yet she insists on trying and gets mad when we end up having to help her.  It's especially hard when she exerts her independence when we are in a hurry to get somewhere.  Talk about trying mommy's patience.  However, I am glad that she does have that independence and determination.  They are good qualities to have!
Some funny things and sayings of Makenna:
She used to call bath bubbles and bubbles....."bubbies"
Whenever her hair is messed up or in her face she says, "My hairs crazy."
One time before getting in the bath she said, "I have a cute butt."
After I had the baby and was nursing...she looked down at her chest and pointed to her little nip.  She proceeded to say, "My boobs.  I feed baby Kayleigh." lol
She is sassy!  After telling her it was time for a nap one day, she responded in a very sassy voice, "No thank you!  I'm not tired!"
When she spots me cleaning or working she is often asking, "Mommy, I help you?"
She sure is a hoot and a joy....everything sweet and ornery all at once. :)  She loves her baby sister and is so gentle with her.  She loves to play with her baby dolls.  She loves Dora and Minnie and Mickey Mouse.  She loves going to grandma's house and riding in papa's truck.  She loves milk and would live off it if I let her.  She is super picky and sometimes hardly eats, but looks as healthy as can be! She is our favorite little two year old girl out there.
Fun at Cabelas!
She insisted on wearing this "pink" Christmas dress in July.  Luckily she did not insist on the long sleeve undershirt that goes with it!
Best buds!
Our glamour girl!  The other day she insisted on wearing her glasses all during the library's story time and then the whole time we went grocery shopping!
Making marshmallow towers!
Showing off her new panties! She is not even close to being potty trained yet...but this was a cute picture!
Swimming in the back yard!
Pig tails!
Hi mom!
Pretty girl!
One of her favorite headbands
She cries like this almost everyday that Noah leaves for preschool. :)   She cries and says, "I want my Noah."  I guess it's a rough life being left at home with mom. :)

She recently had her birthday party and had a blast!  She enjoyed having her family there to celebrate.  Both sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins!  She was sooo slow opening her presents.  She would carefully tear off a piece of wrapping paper and then hand me piece by piece so that I could throw each piece away.  She definitely did not rip and tear the paper off like most kids.  She was very gentle and careful with each present.  ha ha  Also, when we all started singing her happy birthday she recognized the song and joined along...singing happy birthday to herself! :)  And she had no idea how to blow out a candle apparently because she preceded to just make a duck face in front of the candle for a few seconds.  No air coming out, just puckered lips.    Finally she figured it out though!  She received many wonderful gifts and loved "Makenna's Happy Birthday" as she said for a few days afterwards.  :)  For example when she pointed to one of her new presents she would say," From Makenna's Happy Birthday."  Soo cute!  We sure love Makenna! :)

Introducing Kayleigh Jean Starits!

We are happy to announce that our newest baby girl has been born.  It was another long, hot summer of miserable, end of the road pregnancy in the hot, sweltering desert of Arizona...but I survived!  Some days...barely survived..but nevertheless, I did!  I feel so sorry for my kids...I hardly had any energy towards the end there.  I was probably a real boring mom...but I still tried to get out and do things with them too.  Good thing my mom has summers off because she helped me keep them entertained and we were able to go and do a lot of things with her this summer from mall visits, swimming pool, summer movies, etc.  With her help, I could muster the energy for some fun for the kids!  She is a wonderful mom and grandma!  The kids are definitely missing her now that school has officially started.  We all look forward to next summer so we can hang out with her again. :)
But on to our little Kayleigh.  We decided to get induced at 39 weeks because then I would have a for sure and readily available baby sitter for my kids as my mom had to start work 1 day after she was born.  It worked out and caused the least amount of stress for all of us.  I am so thankful for my doctor who was willing to work with us and happy to let me have my baby girl a little bit early.  She said that I have had healthy pregnancies, labors, and deliveries...and that there really was no reason not to.  And yet again we were blessed to have everything turn out great and Kayleigh and mama were doing great after her delivery.
Alright, so onto her birth story.  We awaited a phone call Monday morning that told us we were able to come in for a scheduled 7:00 AM induction.  They called us and we happily and anxiously drove to the hospital and got things started.  I am not sure why...but I felt so nervous for this delivery.  I was so worried something bad was going to happen to the baby or to me and I had to calm myself down and pray the whole time I was there.  Kind of weird! I had never been that way before, but I was super nervous and stressed for some reason.  I am not sure why I was...as everything worked out great.  I was in labor from about 8:20 - until 4:28 when my sweet baby girl was born.  I literally only pushed for less than 2 minutes and the most recent Starits was born! Kayleigh Jean Starits was born Monday, July 29th at 4:28 PM.  She was 20 1/2 inches long and 7 pounds 5 ounces.  One thing to remember...she was MAD about being out of the womb.  She screamed and screamed for a good hour!  She finally calmed down though and we were all able to dote on our newest addition.  We were visited in the hospital by my mom (who was there for the birth), step-dad Bob, my cousin Keri, and then my brother and sister in law Kyle and Jen.  Luckily Kyle and Jen had the day off and graciously agreed to watch Noah and Makenna so that my mom could be at the hospital with Tommy and I...which is right where I would want her.  :)  When they brought the kids we were excited to see their reactions.  Noah looked but seemed very disinterested and wanted to play his dad's iPad instead.  He did check the new baby out, but not for very long.  But Makenna was infatuated with her new "baby Kayleigh" she wanted to be next to the baby the whole time.  And the same has rung true a week and a half later.  Makenna always wants to hold the baby and is so gentle and loving.  She gives her kisses as often as she can, is completely aware of her, and loves her to pieces.  Noah will hold her every now and then, is not as gentle, and between a kiss here and there would much rather just do his own thing.  I think it is kind of funny! :)
We have been so happy to have our new baby sister born.  She seems to take more after Noah's temperament.  Doesn't matter if she is really upset or just a little upset....it is usually the same loud screaming cry.  Also she cried off and on for almost 4 hours straight the first night we took her home.  She seems to be the greatest baby all day and then has only had 2 nights where she didn't cry from 2 - 4 hours straight in the middle of the night.  I am wondering if she might have reflux like Noah did too.  All I know is that Makenna was definitely my easiest newborn and baby so far.  Hopefully Kayleigh's stomach issues will work themselves out soon.  I hate to have her on medicine for reflux like we had to have Noah...but if it doesn't get better...momma and daddy do need their sleep! lol
But she is a joy to have.  She is the cutest little baby and during the day can often be spotted with a random smile on her face.  Her eyes flutter quite a bit when she sleeps and she has already brought much joy to our family and my heart.  I am thankful for her health and pray she continues to grow healthy and strong.  I love my role as a mother...it is demanding and tiring...but there isn't anything Id rather be doing right now in my life.  I love my kids and I am thankful to have them with me everyday!
Here are some pictures of the kids and our beautiful, new baby girl Kayleigh Jean!  Which I might add...she was a hard baby to name! At first we really liked Lexie and then we didn't and then we went through a slew of names to consider and possibly use.  We disagreed on names and nothing sounded right.  For a little bit we were even going to name her Mayah.  And then FINALLY we decided to name her Kayleigh! lol  We are spelling it with the "leigh" because my middle name is Leigh and I thought that would be cool to include in her name.  Then her middle name "Jean" is after my mom whose middle name is also Jean.  So that is a little story on naming this little princess!

Children's Museum

It is summer time so we have been enjoying having Grandma Timmons home from school to hang out with us.  Noah's had an especially fun summer because he got to go visit his Grandma Starits in Tucson and hangout with his cousin Morgan for a couple days right after he got home from Colorado!  So he has stayed very busy and happy.  We went to the Children's Museum a couple weeks ago and the kids had a blast.  None of us had been there before and were very impressed with all the fun stuff the kids could do.  Noah loved this big huge jungle climbing thing and the arts and crafts.  Of course!
Makenna loved to push a pretend cart around and load it with groceries all by herself.  It was a great time and we were all tired afterwards.
After spending the morning in the museum we met my stepsister Bobbie and her new baby Kason for lunch and then went home and crashed!  What a great summer day! :)

Colorado

We were able to go to Colorado the first week of June and it was a great time.  It was so nice to enjoy the cooler weather during the summer.  Arizona is sooo hot in the summer especially when you are pregnant.  But I would much rather live in Arizona during the winter months than Colorado!  Hopefully one day I can have a cabin or something in Colorado and I can live there in the summer and then live here in Arizona the rest of the time.  It sure would be nice!  Noah especially liked being able to be outside all day everyday.  He had fun with his cousin Ryan.  It was a great time spending a day in the mountains, visiting with family, helping my grandma quilt, and just enjoying a little vacation! :)

My handsome hubby helping burn all of the fire hazard weeds that have over taken my  grandparents carrel.

Nothing beats a day in the mountains!

Crazy cousins! :)

Me and the Princess :)

View of a pretty lake that the men hiked too

One of the few times Noah slept during the 24 hours it took to drive to and  from Colorado.   Rare moment for this kid! lol
Noah loved walking back and forth from Grandma Morgan's house to the  Russell's house to play with Ryan.
He was soo cute and very cautious to look both ways before crossing the street.
Yummy campfire marshmallows
